atriga in dialog: ibi research Managing Director Dr. Georg Wittmann in conversation
Whether regulatory challenges, new digital business models or the influence of artificial intelligence – the financial and retail sector is facing rapid change. Companies that do not want to lose touch need exchange, orientation and the right partners.
This is exactly where the ibi partner network comes in: As an innovation network, it brings together financial service providers, trading companies and technology providers to pool knowledge, analyze trends and work together on forward-looking solutions.
With atriga, a pioneer in AI-based receivables management is now part of this network.
But what makes the ibi partner network so valuable? What advantages do the members have? And which fields of research are currently in focus? We talked about this with Dr. Georg Wittmann, Managing Director of ibi research at the University of Regensburg.
What is special about the ibi partner network?
Dr Georg Wittmann: “The ibi partner network represents a comprehensive innovation network in the financial services and retail sector. In the independent network, which specialises in technical and IT issues, research results are shared, experts from the financial services and retail sectors are brought together on a neutral platform and the dialogue and exchange of ideas, concepts and experiences are promoted. Through the ibi partnership, we are building a long-term, trusting relationship with particularly innovative companies in order to maintain a stimulating exchange of ideas with them and to stimulate cooperation between the participating companies.”
How do the partners actually benefit from this network?
“The ibi partner network thrives on personal and professional exchange. Our ibi events such as the CIBI Innovation Day, the E-Commerce Day or the ibi Payments Forum serve this purpose. Exclusively for our partners, we organise partner-only events three times a year for an intensive personal exchange of ideas and networking. With our publications and the dispatch of our industry-specific newsletters, we promote the knowledge development of ibi partners and support them in their daily work. The partner companies always have priority when it comes to participating in our customised research and consulting projects.”
ibi Managing Director Dr Georg Wittmann: ‘We are delighted to welcome atriga, such an innovative solution provider, to our partner network. atriga has many years of experience in digital receivables management and thus enriches our network with its expertise.’

On what levels does the exchange take place?
“The exchange takes place on a personal level – both physically and virtually. To this end, we organise joint platforms for our partners to exchange expertise and network with each other.”
What does the network and ibi research expect from the partners?
“We benefit from the suggestions and impulses that we receive from the expertise of highly qualified practitioners from the companies participating in the ibi partner network. This helps us immensely to ensure the practical relevance of our research.”
What are the joint research and project activities?
“atriga’s core topic – the customer-centred dunning process – is an important area of research for us. Joint research and project activities could therefore focus on AI-supported receivables management, customer-friendly dunning strategies or regulatory developments. The optimisation of payment default forecasts with AI or the development of a regulatory framework for compliance requirements would be starting points, as would the analysis of open banking activities and their use for risk assessment. Of course, there are always others that emerge in the short term.”
Why is atriga a welcome new partner in the network?
“Every partner who enriches the network is very welcome. We are delighted to welcome atriga, such an innovative solution provider, to our partner network. atriga has many years of experience in digital receivables management and thus enriches our network with its expertise. In addition to atriga’s industry expertise and project experience, its IT skills also provide a valuable source of inspiration for our joint research and project activities.”
Why is exchange in a specialised innovation network so important today?
“Especially in these difficult and fast-moving times, it is particularly important to network and utilise synergies, because together we are stronger. The ever faster development of innovations and the emergence of new trends is easier to assess and process as a community than as a single company. With our partner network, we have an innovation alliance that acts as a sparring partner, idea provider, project partner and “friends & family” all in one.”
How does the partner network address current challenges such as multi-crises, AI and the changing economic environment?
“The partner network offers a platform for dialogue on current challenges such as multi-crises, AI and economic changes. Specialist events, research projects and innovation funding provide partners with practical insights and recommendations for action. We analyse regulatory developments, support the digital transformation and promote sustainable decisions through sound data analyses. We also work with companies to develop use cases for AI and sustainable business models. In this way, the network helps to identify trends at an early stage, minimise risks and exploit opportunities.”
Dear Dr Wittmann, thank you very much for the interview!
