From the Netherlands to the USA: atrigans' favourite holiday destinations
Anticipation is certainly the greatest joy. Especially when the long-awaited summer holiday is within reach. Close your eyes for a moment, block out the dreary rainy weather – and you can feel the sun, sand and sea. Or enjoy a cool glass of wine on a cosy, warm summer evening. Where are you travelling to this time? By car, plane or boat? We asked the atrigans and found out that there are very different favourite destinations for the ‘best time of the year’. Read for yourself and be inspired.
Christina H.: “My favourite place to be is on the dunes of Heligoland. What makes this holiday destination special is the limited number of tourists, the vastness of the sea all around, the uncrowded beaches and the peace and quiet that comes with it. Swimming with the seals and harbour seals is also something special (as a former competitive swimmer, I really enjoy it). The entire island is car-free, which means no exhaust fumes, no noise.”

Markus N.: “My favourite holiday destination: Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, like smaller villages such as Le Plan-de-la-Tour, Ramatuelle, etc. Where is that exactly? South of France. What makes this place so special for me? Relaxation, people and language, simply enjoying the savoir vivre.”

Julia F.: “Bluebonnet Café, Marble Falls, Texas. The Bluebonnet Café is an old, typical American diner. It serves breakfast, lunch and the best pies in the surrounding area. The service is also typically American, and the special thing for me is that you sit in the café with retirees and local workers and strike up a conversation.”

Annika S.: “My favourite holiday destination is the amusement park. Spending a great time with family and friends and simply leaving the stress outside. We always book with a hotel stay in one of the many great themed hotels. It’s like being in another world and a great short holiday with lots of fun and, above all, adrenaline. Riding a rollercoaster is the best thing for me. The crazier the ride, the more fun it is. I’ve already been to Phantasialand twice this year. Once in winter and now at the beginning of May. I’m already planning my third trip, this time to Europapark. Next year it will be Holland (Efteling).”

Dieter P.: “One of our favourite holiday destinations is now Renesse in the Netherlands, where the sea and sandy beach are within walking distance and we can relax from the stresses of everyday life. My wife and I always end our holiday with dinner at Perry’s Beachclub. In addition to the great view (including a beautiful sunset in good weather), we love the atmosphere and of course the delicious food.”

Verena Z.: “Our favourite holiday destination is a small town in the Netherlands: Burgh-Haamstede. My husband and I went there for the first time a year ago. We were immediately blown away by the beautiful white, almost Caribbean-like sandy beaches, the predominantly very friendly people and the numerous excursion options (boat trips, seal watching, shopping, etc.). We love the sea and went on kilometre-long walks along the beach, where we were able to relax and unwind. Rarely have we relaxed so well on holiday. We’ll be there again soon and are really looking forward to it.”

Sandra S.: “Last-minute flights, landing somewhere and then travelling by car or train and staying overnight wherever I like. All without appointments, bookings and all the other stuff you have to deal with in everyday life. I also never travel to the same places, the world has so much more to offer.”
